Canadian Lankan to contest general elections
A woman Barrister of Sri Lankan descent, Chamali Fernando has been
nominated as the Conservative's prospective parliamentary candidate for
Cambridge constituency in Canada. She was selected at a special general
meeting of members of the Cambridge Conservative Association recently.
In a story posted in the Cambridge City Conservatives website,
Chamali Fernando, 35, said, "I am delighted to be provided an
opportunity to champion issues that matter to the people of Cambridge
whilst ensuring politics becomes more relevant, welcoming a
representative of society."
She will contest the Cambridge seat in the 2015 General Election.
Fernando said it would be an honour to serve the people of Cambridge as
their next Member of Parliament.
Nick Clarke, Chairman of the Cambridge Conservative Association has
expressed delight to have selected Chamali whom he described as an
'excellent candidate'. The CCA member came second in the last General
