Roo-Sanda-Rae in Negombo


Rookantha Gunathilake

The Welfare Society of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo will stage the "Roo-Sanda-Rae Live in Concert" on August 30 at the school grounds as a mega fund-raising project for development work.

The Roo-Sanda-Rae live in Concert is performed worldwide by the popular Sri Lankan singer-songwriter-musician, Rookantha Gunathilake and Chandralekha Perera featuring their daughters Raini Gunathilake and Windy Gunathilake.

The concert is held annually in the USA, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Rookantha is one of the most successful musicians in Sri Lanka's pop industry.

He is known to have changed Sri Lanka's music industry in the 80s with his songs.

Two disciples of Guru Smt Vasugy Jegatheeswaran, Sangeeta Thavendrasingham and Anjana Thavendrasingham held their 'Arangetram' recently at the Ashcroft Theatre, Fairefield Halls, Croydon, Surrey, United Kingdom.

It was choreographed by Kalasuri Smt Vasugy Jegatheeswaran. She was accompanied by Shri Y. Yadavan, vocalist, Shri Bhavani Shankar, Miruthangam, Shri Ratheeshkumar Violinist and Shri Madhusoodanan Flutist. The chief guest was the dance exponent 'Kalamamani' Smt Urmila Sathayanarayanan.

 


 


SOSL in a concert of film tunes

The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka moves away from its strict classical idiom to present a concert of Movie Themes. The concert sees the return of soloist Ramya de Livera Perera who will perform the Warsaw Concerto which was composed for the film Dangerous Moonlight. The orchestra will be directed by Dushyanthi Perera. The Movies Concert will be held on September 7 at the Ladies' College Hall at 7 p.m.

The program will include a wide variety of legendary film scores including themes from James Bond and the Gladiator, Star Wars and the nostalgic strains of the Adagio from Spartacus. On a feel-good note the Orchestra will perform tunes from Mama Mia, The Sound of Music, the musical Chicago and the Dam Busters.


 

Wijitha Rohana Wijemuni's Petikiriya, a compact disc consisting of his radio discussions with Srimath Indrajith Liyanage, was launched recently. Here Liyanage presents a copy of the CD to Wijemuni. The CD is distributed free by the Katahanda Media Centre, Buvanekaba Mawatha, Mirihana, Nugegoda.
