Seven new bridges for Badulla

Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala De
Silva will lay foundation stones today to build seven bridges in the
Badulla city area under the government's infrastructure development
program for the Uva province.
Parliamentarians, former members and ministers of the Provincial
Council, senior government officials and members of the public will be
present, Coordinating Secretary to Minister Gunapala Illayapperuma told
the Sunday Observer.
The construction of the bridges, a much felt need under the city's
beautification and infrastructure development program, will commence
immediately and completed soon, Illayapperuma said.
The Milagastenne bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 200 million at
Station Road, Badulla will be commissioned soon. Three other bridges in
the Badulla Pradeshiya Sabha area are also under construction at a cost
of Rs. 60 million, Illayapperuma said.
They are the Dambagoda Galagedera bridge, the Telbedde Storewatte
bridge and the Kirimalgoda Medamankada bridge, he said.
Three roads that are being constructed and carpeted at huge costs
under the Uva Provincial Council's road development programs are nearing
completion while work on one road has already been completed, Uva
Governor's Media Secretary M.B. Chandrapala said.
Work on the Muppana-Wedikumbura-Thenagallanda road built at a cost of
Rs. 732 million has been already completed, he said.
Almost 90 percent of the work has been completed on the
Galanda-Kandaketiya-Karametitiya road constructed at a cost of Rs. 783
million, the Kottagoda-Podumilla-Adiyarawatta-Maspanna-Yalagamuwa road
at a cost of Rs. 996 million and the
Medithale-Pathanawatta-Thennapanguwa-Kiriwehera road at a cost of Rs.
814 million, he said.
