Six new stamps issued
The Philatelic Bureau of Postal Department issued six stamps last
week with Pigeon Island National Park and the wildlife surrounding it.
The stamps were issued in Nilaveli. Postal Services Minister Jeevan
Kumaratunga was the Chief Guest and Senior officers from Wildlife
Department were also present.
The stamps are in the denomination of Rs. 7, Rs. 10, Rs. 15, Rs. 25,
Rs. 35 and Rs. 50. The Philatelic Bureau issues four stamps annually
featuring the wildlife of Sri Lanka.
The revenue of the Philatelic Bureau has increased due to the
quality, enthusiasm of philatelists locally and internationally and the
Philatelic Committee in the Philatelic Bureau. The Committee decides the
number of stamps to be issued per year.
Minister Kumaratunga said that the stamps could be printed themselves
without imposing any burden on the Treasury.
