In a bid to expedite detections related to narcotics in both
countries, senior officials of the Indian and Sri Lankan narcotics
detection agencies came to an understanding last week, police sources
said.
At a special two day meeting held in New Delhi the top officials
agreed to work together in busting narcotics related cases and to
associate each other in common endeavours.
Senior DIG in charge of Northern Province Pujith Jayasundera, who has
a long standing reputation being the Director of Police Narcotics Bureau
engaged in many Heroin detections, current PNB Director Kamal Silva took
part in the two-day meeting held on August 21 and 22.
They met the head of Indian narcotics detection bureau, its Deputy
Commissioner and officer in charge of South Indian zonal narcotics
detection agency and held discussions at length on how to face this
common crisis. Both parties agreed to exchange intelligence reports of
narcotics related activities and to conduct swift raids based on them.
They also agreed to act immediately on the instances when wanted
suspects trying to enter and exit both countries through illegal
channels.
India and Pakistan have been identified as two significant countries
in the region where Heroin is being smuggled into Sri Lanka by sea.
