BOI to promote investment with Seychelles

The Board of Investment (BOI) and Seychelles Investment Board signed
an MoU last week. It was signed by BOI Chairman Dr. Lakshman Jayaweera
and CEO of Seychelles Investment Board, Rupert Simeon.Investment
Promotion Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena was also present.
Minister Abeywardena said that Sri Lanka and Seychelles, both Indian
ocean island nations, enjoyed friendly relations. President Mahinda
Rajapaksa's visit to Seychelles last June has further strengthened
bilateral ties between the two countries. Mihin Airlines, Nawaloka
Medical Centre and Bank of Ceylon have set up branches in Seychelles.
During the visit of Seychelles President James Michel to Sri Lanka in
2012, both Governments signed a number of MoUs and also agreed to sign
an MoU to promote investment cooperation, he said.This MoU will lead to
cooperation between the BOI and the Seychelles Investment Board.
Investment promotion agencies will share information.
It will build relationships between investors of the two countries
and promote business opportunities, Minister Abeywardena said.
“The MoU will also promote manpower training and create opportunities
for our greatest treasure, the youth and develop the tourism industry in
both countries”, Abeywardena said.
Under the MoU, both countries will assist investors by arranging
field trips. The next stage will be to set up a joint committee to build
cooperation, he said. |
