New electoral register on the web

The new electoral register will be posted on the web for the first time by the Elections Department in September, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said.

He said the move will facilitate voters to check if their names have been included in the latest register without waiting for an election. The new register will be accessible via the Elections Department website.

A voter has to enter the polling division which he or she belongs to and type the national ID number to check his name in the registry.

“We will not list the house number and the street name to protect the privacy of voters,” the Commissioner said.

The list will be available online after September 2 and the appeals from those who haven’t been registered will be entertained until October. The final certified register will be posted on the web in October.
