Warrant issued in cheating case

The Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge, Gihan Pilapitiya issued an open warrant for the arrest of a suspect in a cheating case yesterday.

The suspect MRC Tharanga Kumara of Maligakanda Road, Maradana is alleged to have collected a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs from Mudalige Chandana Lal of Senanayake Road, Borella, promising to send the complainant, Lal to a foreign country for higher education. Chandana Lal had made a complaint to the Colombo Fraud Bureau that the suspect had neither refunded the money nor sent him to a foreign country for higher Education.

Senior Attorney Sanjay Gamage appeared for the complainant Chandana Lal who moved court to issue a warrant on the suspect as he was not present in court when the case was called.
