Dicussion on role of taxes
An eminent panel will discuss the role of taxation in economic
development at the CIMA: Directors and CEOs forum at the Hilton Colombo
Residencies on October 16 from 2-5 pm.

Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion, Faizer Mustapha will deliver
the keynote address.
The presentation focusing on key thought areas would be delivered by
Principal - Tax and Regulatory, KPMG, Suresh R.I. Perera, followed by a
panel discussion with corporate leaders.
The panel discussion will be moderated by the Chief Financial
Officer, Brandix Lanka Ltd, Hasitha Premaratne.
The panel will consist of Kabir Hashim, MP, Secretary General and
CEO, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mangala P.B. Yapa, Chairman and CEO,
Access Group, Sumal Perera, Economist Dr. Anura Ekanayake and Suresh
R.I. Perera.
The areas of discussion will include, tax strategy for development -
are we on the right path? Direct tax vs indirect taxes - what is the way
forward; Tax administration and the road to a new tax culture.
The tax policy of a country is paramount on its path to economic
development. Taxes play a vital part in the reduction of inequity in the
distribution of income, promotes social welfare, resource mobilisation,
regional development and attracts foreign exchange. |
