Dinesh to address water problems in North
by P. Krishnaswamy
Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on an
inspection tour of Kilinochchi on Friday to address the acute water
problem of farmers told the Sunday Observer that he met a cross section
of people and they expressed their gratitude to President Mahinda
Rajapaksa for launching development programs in the North.
He was happy that their views about the Government and its
development programs were quite opposed to that of the TNA.
They are happy about the prevailing atmosphere of peace and
brotherhood and rejected any views opposed to it, Minister Gunawardena
said.
Following a request by people for water, for drinking and farming, a
survey on the possibility of launching a small water supply project in
Pooneryn for the 10,000 strong local communities was conducted. The
project will be launched in two months, he said.
