Over 125 golfers in action at 5th Oman Air Golf today

OMAN AIR GOLF: Over 125 golfers will be seen in action at the5th Oman Air Golf Classics 2014 organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Oman Airways which will be worked off at the award winning Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy this Sunday (October 5).

Oman Airways is the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman and has expanded its areas of operation to many countries said the Country Sales Manager for Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives Gihan Karunaratne. They are pleased to sponsor this major golfing event which has grown in stature over the years.

He said this year in addition to the trophies, attractive cash awards will be also made, so that the prize winners could utilise the way they want, may they will spend it on golf or on sight seeing.

He said one of the main objectives of this championship is to promote Sri Lanka not only as a golfing destination in the region but also as a tourist destination which will boost up the economy. When tourists come to Sri Lanka, it is not only the tourists hotels which will benefit and the benefits accrued will flow down the line to the man on the street as they will be in contact and purchases will be made even from the fruit seller. So the benefits are many.

He said Sri Lanka has lot to offer for the tourists especially with its places of interest within the city and the suburbs. Some of them are found nowhere in the world and its scenic beauty and the climatic conditions are a tourist paradise.

Playing this championship at the beauty Victoria golf course which has been 7 times voted as the Best Golf Course in the Sub-Continent and it will be a matter of prestige for the golfers to play in this golf Course.

The General Manager of Victoria Golf and Country Resort Neroy Marso said that Victoria has been a five activity during the 10 days as one of the major championships was held last week and the large number of foreign golfers who came over here were thrilled with the Challenges the course offered and its scenic beauty set under sylvan surroundings. The excitement will be more as the region experienced heavy showerds last week which helped in the luxuriant growth of grass which could only mean there will be plenty of spills and thrills and the golfers will have to draw out from their golfing experience to come to teams with it. Manager Marketing and Events of Victoria Ms. Dhanushika Medagoda said that they are expecting golfers from Dubai, Oman, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Qatar, Kuwait, Australia and many other countries.

She said that the main event will be the Oman Air Golf Classic trophy which and the winner gets the biggest prize on offer. Apart from this there be prises for Indies and gentlemen nett score, longest drive and nearest to the pin.

Mr. Gihan Karunaratne from Oman Airways will be the chief guest.
