Wesley College, Colombo will vie for their second successive trophy
when they play at the Blue & Gold Hockey 7s tournament next week
organized by Royal College Hockey Club and Royal College.
More than 50 boys and girls schools across the country including
Jaffna will take part in this year's tournament organized for the 12th
consecutive year scheduled during October 11 and 12 at Royal College
grounds.
In the girls category, Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala will
play to defend their title in the tournament which will see around 130
games in the two days. Main matches including the cup finals will be
telecasted live in CSN.
The tournament is sponsored by Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc and
co-sponsored by ESOFT Metro Campus. Asoka Pieris, the Group CEO of
Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc will be the chief guest for the finals and awards
ceremony. This annual all-island event is organized mainly to help
enhance the talent of school hockey players and improve the overall
standards of the game.
The teams will compete under cup, bowl, and plate championships in
the both boys and girls category. Host Royal has emerged champions
thrice, the highest by a boys team, while Seethadevi Balika Vidyalaya,
Kandy has won the title five times in the history of the tournament.
