SLT introduces Sisu Connect and Web Guard
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) with the National Child Protection Authority
(NCPA) carried out a series of islandwide awareness programs recently
focused on protecting children against all forms of abuse, to mark World
Children's Day.
SLT employees also volunteered to distribute leaflets in selected
schools islandwide to raise awareness among children and the community
at large about the urgent need to protect our children from all kinds of
abuse.
With the cases of child abuse on the rise, SLT embarked on this CSR
initiative last year with an islandwide awareness campaign followed by
an awareness program at Anuradhapura, the area which recorded the
highest number of child abuse cases in 2012. The first program educated
200 principals, teachers and students about the different forms of child
abuse, how to identify and report it to prevent these incidents from
happening in the future.
Since then, the company has been committed towards this cause and
under the guidance of the NCPA, it has been continuing this project with
employees in SLT Offices islandwide conducting awareness programs at
schools this year as well.
Up to the end of September, nearly 9,000 students in 29 schools
across the island have been educated about the various forms of child
abuse, how to avoid unethical influences.
By the end of this year, the company plans to educate over 40,000
children from over 200 schools with the help of the company's islandwide
network of offices.
Through this project, SLT aims to bring about a safe, secure and
healthy environment where children are protected from all forms of
abuse, including child labour. The programs also emphasise the
community's responsibility towards protecting children from abuse of all
kinds.
SLT has introduced several innovative products to ensure the
protection and safety of children, such as SLT Sisu Connect and SLT Web
Guard.
Sisu Connect is a value added service provided by SLT with the
Ministry of Education to ensure that children are always in touch with
their parents no matter where the are physically. |
