School attendance to be made compulsory

The Education Ministry in association with the Economic Development and Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry launched a program to ensure that each student attends school by December 31, 2014, a spokesman of the Ministry of Education said.

He said the objective of the program was to make Sri Lanka 100 percent literate by 2020. Around 50,000 children did not attend school and the Education Ministry hopes to send them to school before December 31 this year.
