Colombo University renews Mobitel 'mLearning' partnership

The University of Colombo recently renewed its partnership with Mobitel, to deliver a continuous service of the online learning initiative 'mLearning' that facilitates distance learning for a range of post-graduate degree programs.

'mLearning', an exclusive learning platform designed and developed by Mobitel, provides quality education while catering to the needs of a student's lifestyle.

Mobitel 'mLearning' is the only commercially available facility in Sri Lanka that allows students to follow a complete university course without being physically present in a classroom.

The University of Colombo covers a wide range of post-graduate degree programs via Mobitel 'mLearning' which include a Master's Degree Programs in Public Administration, Management, Post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration, Management, Business Management, Executive Diploma in Marketing and Public Management and Governance.

"The mLearning post-graduate degree programs could be followed while at home or in any part of the world, thereby giving students the opportunity to obtain a recognised local post-graduate degree while residing in any part of the world," said Vice Chancellor, UOC, Prof. Kumara Hirimburegama.

"Following a post-graduate degree program through mLearning also avoids the hassle of spending time and money that is usually incurred on transportation, accommodation which are often difficult for students," he said.

mLearning provides students stationed in distant regions outside the Western Province an opportunity to further pursue their education to meet the needs of a competitive global market," Prof. Hirimburegama said.

"Mobitel mLearning is perhaps the world's only platform that offers virtual class room programs while providing an exclusive learning management system on a single platform. Mobitel has always strived to make a valuable contribution to many sectors such as apparel, industrial and transport, including education, through its technological expertise and service offerings," said Mobitel CEO Ranjith G. Rubasinghe.

The University of Colombo, Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) has trained hundreds of students and has been using Mobitel 'mLearning' since 2009.

Mobitel 'mLearning' has been introduced to many leading educational institutes such as the University of Kelaniya, CIMA Sri Lanka (South East Asia Region), PIM - Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenapura, Sri Lanka College of Surgeons, Kandy Society of Medicine and Kotelawala Defence Academy.

'mLearning' is now integrated with Cisco Webex, one of the world's most advanced web conferencing platforms which brings device independency by allowing students to participate in lectures via their PC, iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows or Blackberry devices.
