Grade 5 schols, highest pass rate in NWP

The NWP candidates of the Grade Five Scholarship examination - 2014
has succeeded in recording the highest pass rate in the island. The pass
rate is 83.65 percent.
Over 32,000 students from the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have
passed this competitive examination. Accordingly, 22,951 students from
Kurunegala and 9,346 students from Puttalam district have passed the
Grade Five Scholarship Examination - 2014.
The NWP - Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara speaking at the recent
NWP-PC monthly meeting held in Kurunegala.
He said that steps would be taken to assist needy students who have
passed this exam by way of monetary assistance to continue their higher
studies.
Around 20,100 students of this number came from low-income families.
Hence, these hard working students would be provided with financial
assistance with the patronage of philanthropists and charity
organisations which have already consented in offering their support.
NWP-Chief Minister further said that 5,900 teachers who teach
compulsory subjects for the GCE (O/L) examination at remote schools in
Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts would be equipped with specific
training to increase the pass rate of students at the GCE (O/L) Exam
2014 and the year 2015.
These hard working teachers would be offered with incentives to
motivate them to produce better results," the Chief Minister said. |
