More showers expected

Due to an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka most parts of the country will experience showers or thundershowers particularly during the afternoon and night. Very heavy falls (more than 150mm) are also likely at some places, Meteorology Department told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers. The Public should to take precautions to minimise the damage caused by lightning the sources said. The sea around the country will experience showers or thundershowers. Winds will be Southwesterly or variable directions and the speed will be 20-40 kmph. There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers, according to the Meteorology Department. The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle will be fairly rough at times as the winds can increase 50-60kmph at times.

The sea areas may be very rough during thundershowers.

The Northern, Eastern and Southern coastal areas will experience showers during the mornings too, the Department sources said.
