First day's play of Second Test called off due to incessant rain

The first day's play of the second four-day unofficial Test between
the touring West Indies 'A' and the Sri Lanka A which was scheduled to
start yesterday at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara, was called off at
11.30 am due to incessant rain.
The home team retained Upul Tharanga as the captain and Niroshan
Dikwella as the wicketkeeper despite five changes in the team.The rest
of the team was to be picked from Vishwa Fernando, Dimuth Karunaratne,
Kasun Madusanka, Ashan Priyanjan, Kithuruwan Vithanage, Romesh Buddika,
Nuwan Pradeep, Nisala Tharaka, Tharindu Kaushal, Jehan Mubarak, Lakshan
Rangika and Madhawa Warnapura.
The stars of the last match, Lahiru Thirimanna, Dinesh Chandimal,
Seekuge Prasanna, Shaminda Eranga and Lahiru Gamage have been left out
of the squad for this game.
The West Indies 'A' team is captained by Carlos Brathwaite, and the
playing XI would be picked from Devendra Bishoo, Kraigg Brathwaite,
Miguel Cummins, Andre Fletcher, Shannon Gabriel, Shane Shillingford,
Sunil Ambris, Jermaine Blackwood, Sheldon Cortell, Kirk Edwards, Assad
Fudadin, Nikita Miller and Chadwick Walton.
The two on-field umpires for the second unoficial Test are Pradeep
Udawatte and Prageeth Rambukwella while Deepal Gunawardena was the
stand-by umpire. Wendell Labrooy is the match refree.
The players were seen signining autographs and cricket bats of the
young specators who were at the Uyanwatte stadium, which is hosting an
international match after a few years. |
