AIDEX 2014: The annual Sports Festival for Amputees who are users of
the Jaipun Limb, organised by the Colombo Friend-in. Need society will
be held today (Sunday, 19th October 2014 at Wesley College, Sports
Ground at Campbell Park, Colombo 8. Members of the public are welcome to
witness the events and there will be no charge.
This year is the 183rd anniversary at the Colombo Friend-in-Need
Society. Aidex has been held for the last 24 years. This festival is
very much looked forward to by both the participants and the organisers.
Over 400 participants have sent in their applications from various
parts of the country. Among the participants are members of the forces
and civilians who have undergone amputation of limes following
conflicts, traffic accidents, infections especially in diabetic patients
and children born with Limb defects.
The events will be worked off from 9 00 a.m. There will be cycle
races for men and women this year too. After the cycle races are over,
there will be 57 track and field events. The track events will be 100,
200 and 400-metre races, while among the field events, there will be
Putt Shot, Long Jump, Discus Throw and Archery.
Ceylon Tea services Ltd (Dilmah) will provide T shirts and caps for
volunteers. There will be breakfast free of charge. Various Individuals
have made cash donations to make the event both colourful and
entertaining. |
