Teachers'plea for tax free vehicles

Several Teachers' Unions of Bentara-Elpitiya electorate have called upon the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to provide teachers and principals tax free vehicles through the 2015 Budget.

In a letter to the President the Ceylon Teachers Service Union General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe has requested the President to permit principals and teachers to obtain tax free vehicles, pointing out that the facility has already been granted to many other officials of the state service.

He has said that government school teachers and principals are getting poor salaries and as a result most of them are not in a position to buy a vehicle although they have to walk long distances to schools in rural areas.
