Havelock SC opened their Dialog Rugby League tournament on a
triumphant note when they beat Police SC by 44 points (3 goals, four
tries, one penalty) to 28 (four goals) in their ‘A’ division rugger
match at police Park yesterday.
Police after obtaining a 28-22 first half lead could not maintain the
momentum as the Havies got their act together to add 22 more points to
the tally without conceding a single point to Police.
It was the Park club who opened scoring through a try from Dushmantha
Priyadharshana which was converted by Dulaj Perera. The Havies then
struck in rapid succession through Mithun Hapugoda and Dushantha
Priyadhrashana and with Dulaj Perera adding the extra points and firing
over a penalty.
But Havies leading with 17 points, Police SC struck back by scoring
tries through Niroshan Karunanayake, Fijian Apsai Naquliva (2), and
Heshan Gunaratne which Samantha Lakshan adding the extra points.
On resumption after the short break the Havies rallied around and
looked much more cohesive than their opponents.
The coordination between the forwards and backs were good and the
Park Club went on to plant three more tries through Mohammed Sherif and
Sandun Herath (2). During the dying stages of the match Dulaj Perera put
over a penalty to make the final tally 44-28. |
