Rain forces postponement of Mahindananda Aluthgamage cricket sixes

CRICKET: Rain in the hill capital forced the organisers to postpone the inaugural Mahindananda Aluthgamage Trophy inter-club Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament in the Kandy District organised by the Cricket Association which was scheduled to be played at Police Grounds, Kandy over the weekend.

The Honorary Secretary of the Kandy District CA Roland Perera said that two inspection of the ground were made and the water-logged condition on one side due to the heavy rains made it difficult for the tournament to be conducted. There are 36 men's teams and 4 girls teams in the fray.

He said that this tournament will be definitely played when there is an improvement in the weather. A notable feature is that teams like Police. Bank of Ceylon, Kandy Municipal Council, Commercial Bank of Ceylon have returned to competition cricket.
