Chinese Ambassador Wu Jianghao wins combined net tourney for Chinese
Nationals

GOLF: Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Wu Jianghao put up an excellent
display to win the Combined Nett for Ladies and Men for Chinese
Nationals while Sri Lanka's Sam Gunaratne and Niloo Jayatillake took
away the 'plum (by winning the gross titles for men and ladies
respectively at the Inaugural Sri Lanka - China Friendship Golf
Championship organised by Victoria Golf and Country Resort.
The tournament was sponsored by China Enterprises in Sri Lanka and
co-sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines and Victoria Golf and Country
Resort. The tourney was worked off at the award winning Victoria Golf
Course at Rajawella off Kandy.
Ambassador Wu Jianghao was in top form and made a fins score of 39
playing to a handicap of 20 and was second in the all entries list which
saw a field of 75 golfers.
In the gross event HE Wu Jisnghao made a good impression making 21
ahead of some of the season golfers with a lot of experience at
Victoria.
Sri Lanka's Niloo Jayatillake once again displayed in no uncertain
terms that she is one of the top lady golfers in the country when won
the Gross event for ladies with a score of 25 points which had a huge 6
point lead over the runner up Louise Parsons who finished runner up with
19 points. In third place was Manori Jayakoddy with 17 points.
Sam Gunaratne affectionately known as 'Sam the Man' for his 'de or
die' efforts was in roaring form to win the Mens Gross title with a
score of 28 points which had a commanding lead of 5 points over the
runner up John Scarth who made 23 edging out Harsha Abeywickrema 23 on a
count back on the last nine holes.
Another perservering golfer Manori Jayakoddy made sure that she went
home with a trophy by winning the Nett event for ladies with a score of
36 playing to a handicap of 20 and ending runner up was Ding Youe 35 who
played to a handicap of 20.
The Nett event for men was won by Zhu Maliang by getting 42 playing
to a handicap of 23 and in second place was HE Wu Jianghao with a score
of 39 playing to a handicap of 20.
Doing the honours at the awards ceremony were Chinese Ambassador Wu
Jianghao, General Manager VCGR Neroy Marson, Upendra Rajapakse (SriLankan
Airlines), S. Wang, Madam Ding Yue, Chris Holloway. |
