The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) a conducted its first
ever Student Research Day recently.
Nine research projects of MBA and PhD students were presented at the
Research Day under three main subject areas, entrepreneurship,
leadership and innovation, and advanced management.
Each of these three sessions were chaired by the Faculty, academics
and reputed entrepreneurs. Chairperson, University Grants Commission,
Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama said that research was important in Higher
Education Institutions as it would ultimately provide inputs to face the
global challenges, and make a positive change in society. This endeavour,
undertaken by PIM, would certainly benefit society and ultimately the
country.
Research activities would provide the much needed conceptual and
practical inputs in the field of management in our march towards a
knowledge economy.
Acting Director, PIM, Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri said that PIM initiated
this concept of showcasing research to benefit a larger audience
including students, academics, researchers, practitioners and policy
makers.
He said that gap between the present and desired levels of management
research should be bridged with publishable quality material and
applicability.
Senior Consultant, PIM, Dr. Travis Perera outlined the initiatives
taken by the Institute from its inception to encourage research
activities and more importantly the continuity of the publication of the
Sri Lankan Journal of Management, which would be elevated to an
international research publication soon.
