Record breaking Christmas display
Australian lawyer, David Richards set the Guinness World Record for
the largest residential Christmas light display when he decorated his
house with more than half a million bulbs – but this year he’s stepped
it up a notch!A Canberra shopping mall has been decked out with a
display of more than 1.2 million bulbs led by David.
This year though, David had some help with volunteers helping create
the display to raise money for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and
Kids ACT (Australian Capital Territory). This year’s display has won
David another Guinness World Record, this time for the largest image
made of LED lights. Those visiting the display will be welcomed free of
charge but will be encouraged to donate to the cause. A local energy
company has contributed by donating the electricity to power the entire
display. David dedicates his displays to raising money for SIDS as it is
a cause close to his heart after he lost his son to SIDS in 2002.

Blind owl with beautiful eyes
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. In the case of Zeus the
owl, the eyes are the window to the stars.Zeus the Western Screech Owl
is blind and, as a result, he does not have the traditional piercing
yellow and black owl eyes; but his eyes are still very beautiful in
their own way.Zeus looks like he has stars in his eyes. They are deep
blue with white freckles that look like the night sky. He was named Zeus
after the mythological God of the Sky.
He is currently living on the desk of Wildlife Learning Center
founder Paul Hahn. He came to his new home after his blindness caused
him to fly into a window of a South Carolina home two years ago.The
homeowners found him on the porch and took him to a veterinarian.
Afterwards he was taken to the center since he could not be released
back into the wild.He now enjoys his days on a perch at Hahn’s desk
where he has a stuffed owl toy and loves to say hello to visitors.

Meet Lammily, the 'Normal Barbie'
The artist who brought us `normal Barbie' last year is now releasing
Lammily, a doll with realistic body proportions who can even be
customised with stickers.Pittsburg artist Nickolay Lamm hopes that
Lammily will help girls feel better about their bodies.“I’m no
psychologist, but I feel where Lammily can help is I want the doll to
make people forget about their bodies in general … the doll looks so
typical and I feel it can help people focus on what they do, rather than
what they look like,” said Lamm.
On March 5 Lamm launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to
bring Lammily to life. More than 13,621 backers gave money and
preordered over 25,000 dolls.
On November 28 the dolls will be ready to be shipped out around the
world.
Lammily has the chest, waist, hip, arm, and leg measurements of an
average 19-year-old girl, unlike Barbie, whose proportions are so
unrealistic that she wouldn’t be able to stand if she was a real
person!Lammily’s arms and legs can bend more than Barbie’s and she has
flat feet so she can do a variety of activities, unlike Barbie who has a
built-in high-heel arch in her feet.
What makes Lammily even cooler is the stickers that make her even
more like a real girl.
For $5.99 Lammily can be customised with stickers to add temporary
tattoos, moles, freckles, acne, grass stains, glasses, scars, stitches –
all things that an average girl has at one point in her life.
If you have a scar on your stomach from surgery, give Lammily one
too! Or, if you love to play soccer and bruise your knees or get grass
stains, Lammily can have them too.Her clothes are very practical but she
still has an outfit for any occasion. Whether she is working out, going
to work, or hanging out with friends, Lammily still looks smart and
fashionable.
