Livelihood Industrial projects in Matara

The Industrial Development Board (IDB) has planned to promote domestic livelihood industrial projects in the district.

Matara District Director of the IDB N.F. Rajapakse said the proposed programs have already commenced at Divisional Secretariat Division level in the district. They include food technology, manufacture of leather products, coir based industries, cement and clay products, garment industry, kitul industry including the manufacture of pure kitul treacle and jaggery, training in smithy works and the light engineering.

The Matara District Director of the IDB N.S. Rajapakse said 14 domestic livelihood enhancement activities are included in these programs. Over 1,000 selected youth have already followed training in these fields. Each person who successfully completes the training is entitled to a tool kit worth over Rs. 30,000 Director N.S. Rajapakse said.
