‘IT, a US $ 5b industry by 2020’

Sri Lanka’s IT literacy rate has risen over 55 percent and it is expected to reach 75 percent by 2016.

As the country has been recognised as the BPO destination of the year by the National Outsourcing Association UK, for the second consecutive year, it is necessary to upgrade skills and produce more IT professionals, Intel Sri Lanka Country Business Manager Indika de Zoysa told those present at the Dell Roundup 2014 in Colombo recently.

The IT industry is expected to become US $ 5 billion sector by 2020.

There will be more employment opportunities in this field and we need to equip our future workforce with the necessary skills, he said.

Sri Lanka’s broadband rates are encouraging.

“We at Dell, have a partnership with Microsoft and Intel to offer customers innovative and feature-rich solutions that empower greater efficiency and productivity,” Dell Sri Lanka Country Manager Lakshmindra Fernando said.
