Over 75,000 new NICs before Presidential election

The Department of Registration of Persons will issue 75,000 NICs to people before the forthcoming Presidential election.

The Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of Persons R.M.S. Sarathkumara said that 2,500 NICs are being issued and 50 mobile service programs were held during past few weeks countrywide to assist those who need NICs.

These mobile service programs were assisted by several voluntary organisations and the Elections Secretariat.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Kurunegala District Secretariat, it was revealed that nearly 75,000 residents do not have NICs at present and hence all Divisional Secretaries of the Kurunegala District have been instructed to expedite the applying process for NICs, a senior official of the Kurunegala District Secretariat said.
