1,000th Nenasala opened
The 1,000th Nenasala under the 1,000 Nenasalas (wisdom outlets)
project was opened at the Galigamuwa Bisovela Rajamaha Vihara premises
recently.
The project which provides ICT facilities to villages was launched in
2005 and the first Nenasala was opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
the historic Kataragama Kirivehera (Temple) on January 1, 2005 when he
was the Prime Minister.
According to ICTA, the 1,000th Nenasala is equipped with super modern
ICT equipment and infrastructure. Nenasala centres have been set up in
all districts and mainly in places of religious worship, such as
temples, kovils, mosques and churches and also public places.
The Nenasala project won the Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation award
for the best rural IT project last year.
This flagship project to improve ICT literacy implemented by ICTA was
adjudged the best out of 150 projects from 110 countries.
The survey report of the Census and Statistics Department reveals
that Nenasalas had provided a massive impetus for the increase ICT
literacy. |
