Unusual weather due to planetary influences
by Anura C. Perera
Weather patterns are changing frequently. The factors that affect the
weather are humidity, air pressure and the temperature of our
atmosphere. Similarly, the light energy and the highly charged solar
wind and other cosmic rays as well as the gravitational forces of the
planets such as Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn also have an influence
on the weather.
The best example to show the effect of planets is the high and low
tides we see in the water bodies. The effect of moon, which is the
closest celestial object to us, on the phenomenon of high and low tides
is well known. When sun and the Moon comes on one side of the earth we
experience larger tides. In some places the waves goes up few meters due
to this phenomenon.
When Sun and few planets come closer on one side of the earth, the
effect is more due to solar wind, gravitational forces and the cosmic
rays. The effect on the upper atmosphere creates disturbances in the
lower atmosphere which in turn leads to weather changes. The movement of
the moon also affects these changes resulting in major upheavals in the
weather pattern.
Sun will be in the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius during
the period 14th November 2014 to 14th January 2015. During this period
the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn will also be in the same
region. This planetary combination has an effect on the weather on
earth.
North America and countries such as England, France, Russia and China
in the northern hemisphere will experience a severe winter conditions
including heavy rains and snowfalls.
The unusually bad weather pattern affecting Sri Lanka with heavy
rains and floods will continue upto January 2015.
