Scholarships for low income students

Needy students who passed the G.C.E. (A/L) 2014 Examination in the
Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts will be assisted by NWP-Chief Minister
Dayasiri Jayasekara under a scholarship program to continue their higher
studies at Universities.
Accordingly, 1500 needy students would benefit and those who have not
passed the GCE (A/L) 2014 Exam would be directed to follow vocational
training courses as per their personal choices.
Accordingly, 8000 students would be able to follow vocational
training courses at Government Technical Colleges, Colleges of
Technology and University Colleges run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Skills Development.
The NWP-PC has allocated Rs. 250 million for next year. All school
heads in the province have already been instructed in this regard and
senior students have been informed through their parents to follow
vocational training courses that ensure lucrative job opportunities both
locally and globally.
Special foreign language courses have been planned for youth who are
interested in migrating for jobs and 1,200 language instructors would be
made available for them to get qualified during the year 2015. All 39
Government Technical Colleges will commence their vocational training
courses for 2015 on January 19 and applications have been called for,
from students to follow the courses, said a senior principal of a
Technical College in the Kurunegala District recently.
