Special security network during Pope's visit

The Police Department will deploy 23,000 police personnel to provide security to Pope Francis 1 during His visit to Sri Lanka on January 13.

A Special Security Unit by the Police Department has been set up in this regard. The Police Department has already deployed five DIGs, 17 SSPs, six SPs and 1500 IPs and SIs.

In addition, six female ASPs, 77 female SIs too would be deployed to provide security to the Holy Father.

A special SLTB bus service and train service would be operated during the tour of His Holiness Pope Francis in Sri Lanka for the convenience of Catholic devotees to get the blessings of Holy Father, said SSP Ajith Rohana, the Police media spokesman to “Sunday Observer” recently.
