Anika Seneviratne

Anika Seneviratne ( 2nd seed ) created an upset to beat top seeded Mahin Qureshi from Pakistan 6/1 6/2 to win the ITF under 14 Junior singles Championships in Vietnam yesterday. The Ladies College schoolgirl did Sri Lanka proud with a power packed performance which left the favourite no chance to recover. The Sri Lankan girls performed extremely well with Natasha Munaweera claiming 4th place and Probodi Perera 5th giving the Sri Lankans the over all No 1 spot. If they manage to perform in this manner next week they could qualify for the next stage of the ITF competition in Thailand in march which will then be the qualifiers for the Asian team to play against the Europeans.

In the doubles Anika and Probodi justified their No 1 ranking with a hard fought 6/1 5/7 10/5 against Weng Si Leong ( Macau) and Natasha Munaweera (SL)

In the boys Ashen Silva did well to finish in 5th place and Thevan Perera 8th with Thevinda Perera 13th overall.

The tournament had over 60 entries with 16 countries participating.
