Incheon Metropolitan City of South Korea will be the book capital of the world for 2015, an UNESCO official said.

The opening will be on April 25. The declaration of Incheon as the book capital of the world on that day will be organised by UNESCO, the Asia Pacific Book Publishers Association (APPA) and South Korea.

A preliminary meeting focusing on literacy and reading promotion was held in December 2014 in Incheon. President, Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association and Vice President, Asia Pacific Publishers Association, Vijitha Yapa was invited to make a presentation about reading promotion in Sri Lanka and in South Asia.

He said that Sri Lanka has a literacy rate of 98% and is projected to achieve 100% literacy in 2016.
