Around 100 golfers in action at Donald Steel tourney at Victoria on Feb 7

Over 100 golfers, both foreign and local are expected to be in action at the 17th version of the prestigious Donald Steel Golf Championship 2015 organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort which will be worked off at the award winning Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy next Saturday February 7th with the first tie off at 7.30 a.m.

This championship will also open the golfing calender for 2015 for Victoria Golf and Counting Resort which is expected to stage some of the major golfing events in the country.

Many prizes, including two air tickets award winners of this 18-hole Stableford Golf Championship. Golfers from United Kingdom. Canada, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India and many other countries are expected to participate for hours.

General Manager of Victoria Golf Course Mr. Neroy Marso said that the course is in top condition.

The Donald Steel Golf Championship was the maiden tournament within Victoria Golf Course was opened in 1999. Worlds best golf architect Donald Steel who was also the President of the England's professional golfers union and golf journalist Donald Steel assisted by Martin Ebert was engaged to convert this coconut plantation into golf course by Late Mark Bostock.

The Donald Steel Trophy is the major trophy awarded to the gentlemen golfers with the Best Gross Score. The defending champion is Sujeewa Lanktilleke but he will not have things his own way with many top golfers eyeing it.

The gentleman golfer with the Best Nett Store. High handicappers will held away here.

Pam Fernando trophy is awarded to the Lady Golfer with the Best Gross Score. It is once again going to be a battle for supremacy between Niloo Jayatilleke and Suwen Selvaraham. Both have been past winner of the Pan Fernando trophy.

Then there will be Victoria Bowl awarded to the lady with the Best Nett score.

Apart from main events there will be other side event like the nearest to the Pin and longest drive for men and women.
