Chaturika Priyanthi hopes to win an international award in
Weightlifting

Balage Chaturika Priyanthi is an all-round sportswoman who has
excelled in Weightlifting, Cricket and Athletics.

A strongly built girl from Dikwella who was educated at Vijitha Maha
Vidyalaya, Dikwella in the Matara District.
Chaturika joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 2010 and went strait way to
weightlifting and participated at the Defence Services Weightlifting
Contest in 2014. He records came in the 71kg in Snatch, 85kg clean and
Jerk and the full total came to 155kgs - competing in the 63kg Weight
Class.
Earlier these records were held by H.S. Tharanga of Sri Lanka Air
Force and Chaturika improved on the records, each by 1kg each. Before
that she won her Weight Class from 2011 to 2013 at the National games.
Chaturika got a push in weightlifting by coaches Palitha Weerasinghe
of Ruhunu University, A.B. Weerasinghe - the National Weightlifting
Coach and P.K.G. Dayan, an internationally qualified coach.
Priyanthi is a versatile sportswoman and is highly involved in the
game of cricket. She was in the National Pool and was coached by
Prasanna Galappathi. She represented Seenigama Ladies team as an
allrounder and her highest score has been 32 runs and as figured
prominently as a bowler and her best figures were 4 for 6 in a club
match. Chaturika was also good at athletics and has been coached by
Keerthi Kumar of Ruhunu University. Chaturika was mindful of her
progress in sports and she took a liking to athletics. With
Weightlifting being her pet sport, Chaturika hopes to win an
international award in Weightlifting soon.
