Registration deadline ends:
CMC ready for dansala inspections
by Carol Aloysius
With the deadline for registering dansalas ending last evening, May
2) the Colombo Municipal Council ( CMC) officers now armed with the
relevant details, are preparing to visit dansalas and inspect them
during the two days of Vesak.
"Over 65% of the 100 applications came from ice cream traders. All of
them are reputed companies. So our main concern will be the rice and
curry dansalas where poor quality food can have serious health impacts",
a senior Food Inspector from the CMC , Gamini Ranasinghe told the Sunday
Observer. He said the CMC had advised all those holding dansalas during
Vesak, to register with the Public Health Authority, headed by the Chief
Medical Officer, CMC, Dr Ruwan Wijyamuni, as a precaution against any
complaints the public can make after partaking a meal at a dansala. All
dansal owners applying for registration were expected to provide
information on the venue , type of food and manner in which it will be
served. " These details have been conveyed to the Medical Officers of
Health and Public Health Inspectors attached to various areas in the
city.
Starting from Sunday ( today) we will be carrying out inspections
throughout the day and night during Vesak", he said. If anyone wants to
lodge a complaint after having a meal at a dansalas , they should
contact the CMC hotline - 0112676161", he added. |
