Religious ceremony at Ruwanweli Seya
An ataperikara, gilanpasa, wata thira and a lotus pooja organised on
a vast scale will be held at the Ruwanweli Seya on Thursday, May 7 at
4.00 p.m., under the patronage of Ven. Pitigala Gunarathana Thera.
Maradankadawala Isipatana Aranyawasi Ven. Kolabisse Vimukthirathana
Thera will deliver the Anusasana.

Soul Sounds presents Spandana on May 9
The renowned Sri Lankan all female choir, 'Soul Sounds' directed by
Soundarie David Rodrigo, will present an evening of Sinhala and Tamil
classic favourites, 'Spandana' (Pulse) on May 9 at 7.30 p.m. at the
Lionel Wendt Theatre. The show is a repeat of the one presented in
November last year which was a part of the group's 10th year
celebrations.
The local audiences will be treated to a variety of some of the best
known and loved local classics, such as Mangala Mohotha, Nim Him Sewwa,
Ganga Addara, Master Sir, as well as popular Tamil hits like Chinna
Chinna Aasai, Nilaavevaa, to name a few. A tribute will also be paid to
the late Nimal Mendis who had worked closely with the choir. Soul Sounds
is supported by Fairway Holdings and Dimo Lanka.
FMM celebrates World Press Freedom Day
The Free Media Movement (FMM) will mark the World Press Freedom Day
with public lecture by Wijayananda Jayaweera, former Director,
Communication Development Sector, UNESCO, today at Hotel Janaki at 4 pm.
Marga lecture on May 6
The Marga Institute together with the Gamani Corea Foundation has
organised a lecture by Dr. Godfrey Gunatilleke on 'Pre-requisites for
very high human development in Sri Lanka' on May 6 at the BMICH
Committee Room D at 3:30 PM.
The lecture will be followed by a discussion by Dr. Indrajit
Coomaraswamy, Dr. Saman Kelegama and Dr. Nishan de Mel.
Sri Lanka is at present at the mid-point of high human development.
The paper discusses what we require to get to very high human
development as defined by the UNDP Human Development Report of 2013.

Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on "Order has its own law", delivered by the
late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at the Study Centre,
Beddagana, Duwa Road, Kotte today (May 3) at 10.30 a.m.
It is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Free clinic by Sri Lanka Cancer Society
The Sri Lanka Cancer Society will hold the next cancer screening
clinic on May 10 at its Bullers' Lane centre from 8.30 AM to 11.30 AM.
The early detection tests of breast, cervical and oral cancer will be
carried out by a panel of doctors free of charge. |
