BBS to enter politics

To be represented in the legislature to raise a voice:

Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary, Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera commenting on their entry into politics said they will not form a coalition with any of the main political parties. “We are in discussion with several registered parties who will be on a similar wave length,” Gnanasara Thera said.

He blamed the main political parties for not protecting unique identities of each ethnicity stating that these parties are destroying the reconciliation among religions.

Following their discussions with the Elections Commissioner earlier this month, the BBS found that they are unable to register as a separate political party as per the current rules and regulations. “We are in discussion with several parties who will be on the same wave length so we jointly can come forward,” said Gnanasara Thera.

He emphasised that priests will not contest in elections. “We will bring in qualified people with knowledge and vision,” he said. The Thera added that they received no fair chance to respond to the allegations raised against them as religious extremists are so powerful and they even blocked media institutes publishing the BBS responce. “Therefore we need to be represented in the Legislature to raise a voice,” he added.
