Dharma Voices for Animals
Dharma Voices for Animals (DVA) gives voice to those who cannot speak
for themselves - animals who are farmed, eaten, experimented on and
otherwise abused.
DVA is a nonprofit organization, with chapters located throughout the
world. It is committed both to practicing the teachings of the Buddha
(the Dharma) and to speaking out especially on abuse of animals in our
day to day lives.
"We want to articulate the suffering of the animals and provide
advocacy for non - human living beings who cannot verbally ask the basic
moral question, 'Why are you paying people to do this to me?' or 'Why
are you causally contributing to my suffering?'
We want to add our voices to those who are willing to speak out about
the harm humans cause to other sentient beings when we eat them, use
their body parts as clothing and in other ways, or use household and
personal hygiene products that are tested on animals", sayis DVA in a
statement addressing that while DVA recognizes the challenges of living
in a complex, modern society, they wish to promote the choices that
contribute to the greatest reduction of animal suffering. Stating that
DVA's aim to be inclusive in respecting the different views of those who
sincerely intend to minimize the suffering of animals, it wishes to
engage collaboratively and constructively with as many individual
Buddhists, institutions and organizations as possible to advocate that
they adopt compassionate policies and to encourage them to work towards
putting a stop to any practices that condone or promote cruelty to
animals.
DVA members are an ever-growing number of people world-wide who
support efforts to raise awareness of the suffering of animals in
society. With this in mind, the DVA aims to open a chapter in Sri Lanka
and those interested in joining and attending the inaugural session
scheduled to be held sometime in July 2015, in Colombo are invited to
contact Ms. LakmaliUdugampola (email: [email protected]) on
or before 14 June 2015.
