Wasim Thajudeen murder:
CID calls for victim’s phone records
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched fresh
investigations into the murder of Wasim Thajudeen, the captain of the
Havelocks team and national rugby player, at the time of his murder.
Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera told the Sunday Observer that the
CID is conducting further investigations about the telephone calls
received to Thajudeen’s phone number as well as the calls he has
generated on May 17, 2012, the day Thajudeen was found dead near Shalika
Grounds, Narahenpita.
Foul play was suspected from the moment of his death, which was at
the time, was explained as a motor accident.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris on the request of the
CID ordered the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) and the
mobile service providers to report to court on the telephone calls
received and dialled by him on May 17, 2012.
The CID also informed Colombo Additional Magistrate that there are
contradictions in the reports submitted by the Judicial Medical Officer
(JMO) and the Government Analyst Department, over the cause of death.
The CID also informed court that the Attorney General will be
consulted with regard to future action to be taken over the
investigations as the death has occurred under mysterious circumstances.
The CID told court that they have asked for a report from the car
manufacturer about the possibility of the motorcar driven by Thajudeen
catching fire, following an accident.So far, Police has recorded
statements from 21 persons about the death.
