WIM recognises the untiring efforts of women in leadership and their
innovative entrepreneurial achievements contributing significantly to
society and the country's development. The award was presented by
Minister for Women's Affairs, Chandrani Bandara, Ambassador of Norway
Grete Lochan and Embassy of the United States of America official Ms.
Rachna Korhonen.
The young entrepreneur impressed the judges with her 'bellybees'
infant food range for children. She recently expanded her range into
many blends.
"What motivated me was the need and the desire from a consumer's
perspective, of what I felt that was not being addressed, when you have
to care for someone other than yourself. If it is a child you
automatically wish to create a safe and healthy environment for them,"
said Wijewickrema.
"Winning the Best Entrepreneur Award is an honour but that doesn't
mean my job is done, I feel like I am only beginning. When I created the
QBD business model it always came back to one point which is, sustaining
life. People need to come before profit and only then you will succeed.
I look at my children and that's where I find my inspiration," she said.
