Big money at Mercantile volleyball tournament

The Mercantile Volleyball Association of Sri Lanka (MVA) is once again organizing the annual mercantile volleyball tournament in a bid to popularize the national sport and to widen the interest in the game in the mercantile sector.

This year's tournament will be held in September/October. It has now become a regular event in the annual sports calendar.

The preliminary rounds are scheduled to be held at the Maharagama Youth Services courts on September 5 and 6 while the finals will be held on October 4 at the Maharagama Youth Services Indoor Stadium.

To qualify for participation, the players should have served in the respective companies for a minimum of three months and joined the institution prior to July 30, 2015. Meanwhile, new clubs can register until August 15, 2015.

The tournament will be held under three categories - Super League, Championship and Division 'A'. Prize money for the winning teams will exceed a million rupees and the best performer will receive a motor bicycle. Trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up and to the best player - male and female.

Applications can be mailed to The Mercantile Volleyball Association, 110, Kumaran Ratnam Road, Colombo 02 with the envelope marked 'Mercantile Volleyball 2015' on the top left-hand corner.
