Sri Lanka's budding Sevens stars on the catwalk

Budding schoolboy players with a dream of playing for Sri Lanka on the international Sevens circuit will showcase their wares today at an Under-20 championship set for kick-off at the Race Course ground in Colombo.

As many as 12 teams packed with star talent will be on show and one of the sides set to be the main draw is a team representing the Agoal Academy under the direction of ex-Sri Lanka fly half Dilroy Fernando.

The players lined up in it are Viraj Weerasekera (Dharmaraja), Nishon Perera (St. Peter's), Sithum Peiris (Wesley), Shamilka Kurumbalapitiya (St. Joseph's), Reeza Raffaideen (Kingswood), Kevin Dixon (St. Peter's) Ramesh Fernando (St. Peter's), Bhanuka Gamage (Royal), Keshan Peiris (Royal), Harshana Peiris (St. Peter's), Saranga Gunatilleke (Trinity), Malka Gamage (Kannangara) and Prabath Hirigolla (Dharmaraja).

The other teams taking part are Isipathana, Caveliers, Science Maroons, Petersons, Kandurata, Cambrians, HARFA Whites, HARFA Greens, Maharagama RFC, Old Mudalians and Panadura RFC.

Two other teams that are expected to stake claims for the top prize are Isipathana and Science Maroons. The Under 20 Sevens is a fore-runner to two upcoming Junior Asian Sevens meets.
