Chevron Corporation, USA, third in Fortune 500 listing
Chevron Corporation, USA, made news recently with high rankings in
both the Fortune 500 listings of the world's biggest companies and
Business Insider's rating of "the best companies to work for in
America."
In the Fortune 500 ranking, the company earned the third spot for the
second consecutive year.
A Fortune report noted that the company strengthened by its
exploration successes, adding the equivalent of more than a billion
barrels of oil through discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico as well as
Australia, Canada and the US's Permian Basin.
Chevron is counting on future gains from the Gorgon project when it
comes online in Western Australia as well as expanded production in the
Gulf of Mexico, Bangladesh and Nigeria.
The Company's Downstream sector has improved, partly as a result of
reduced refining costs stemming from low oil prices. Now in its 61st
year, the Fortune 500 ranks companies on the basis of total revenues,
profits, assets, employee base, earnings per share, and total return to
investors. Chevron has been on Fortune 500's list every year since its
inception. Business Insider also ranked Chevron as the number one energy
company to work for - and fourth among all companies - in its annual
employee survey, conducted by PayScale.
