Culinary Art taken to great heights

Culinary Art has gone from strength to strength since its launch to become the country's largest food and trade exhibition today and an event of repute in the Asia Pacific region, Chairman, Chefs Guild of Lanka, Gerard Mendis told guests at the opening of the 16th Culinary Art Food Expo (CAFÉ) at the BMICH in Colombo recently.

Canadian High Commissioner Shelley Whiting was the Chief Guest.

The event was held on the theme 'From Shelf to the Table' under two segments, a culinary art competition and a trade exhibition on hospitality, food, processed food and packaging. There were over 150 stalls displaying products and services.

In the culinary art competition there were about 2,000 entries from over 140 hotels and almost 1,200 chefs battling for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

"We have taken Culinary Art in Sri Lanka to great heights with the Expo Fair, attracting food and beverage suppliers and manufacturers," he said.

The Food Expo showcased a range of Sri Lankan, Indian, Western and eastern food styles and presentations and local and foreign chefs battled for honours under various categories such as practical live category and static display category."In the past, prominence was given to the culinary side but this year we expanded the industry side as well.
