Kantale sugar factory to be revived

The Board of Investment (BOI) signed a 30-year investment agreement with MG Sugars Lanka (Pvt) Ltd to revive and restructure the Kantale sugar factory.

The project would be run on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis and 51% of the shares will be held by the Government and 49% by the foreign investor.

The investment of US $ 110 million will be borne by the investor. SLI Development (Pvt) Ltd, Singapore is the foreign investor. The number of direct employment opportunities would be around 1,220.
 

 


SriLankan Aviation College partners Mobitel

The national carrier's integrated training arm, SriLankan Aviation College and Mobitel have introduced the electronic learning platform, mLearning for the education and training needs of the college.

mLearning allows simultaneous lecture delivery via several multimedia modes such as PowerPoint, Instant Messaging Word, video, audio and internet, with live audio and video multiple way communication to enable interaction between students and teachers.

mLearning will offer students of SriLankan Aviation College a greater convenience and flexibility in the learning process, where they can access the lessons from any place at any preferred time.

 

 


Adyapana 2015

Sri Lanka's most focused higher education and career exhibition, Adyapana 2015, will be held for the 10th consecutive year from October 2-4 at the BMICH. It has been renowned as a focused and education oriented exhibition, patronized by students who have clear intentions on furthering their education in Sri Lanka or overseas.

The Colombo edition is the main event in the series of Adyapana exhibitions. Adyapana Kalvi was conducted in Jaffna in January.

Adyapana is considered a central platform by students to pursue their education. Over 12,000 students visited last year's event.

 

 


Workshop on productivity

A one-day workshop on 'Productivity Improvement Techniques for Manufacturing and Engineering Industries' (in Sinhala) will be held on Friday, August 21 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the National Chamber auditorium.

The facilitator will be Sunil G Wijesinha, a recognised corporate trainer on productivity.

The program will also touch on productivity concepts and misconceptions and competitiveness, calculating productivity, explanation of single factor, multi factor and total factor productivity, types of single factor productivity, labour, material, energy, and capital productivity, and basic strategies for improving productivity.

 

 


Dialog Television connects 500,000 customers
 

Dialog Television, a direct-to-home satellite entertainment network, recently reached the milestone of connecting 500,000 customers. To mark this achievement, Dialog Television gifted the 500,000th customer with a 55-inch LED television and a free upgrade to Dialog Television's Gold Package and one year's free viewing. The lucky winner was Ramar Sritharan of Wattala.
