FMM urges impartial and swift probe into disappearance of Eknaligoda

The Free Media Movement (FMM) has called upon the Criminal Investigation Department to continue the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Pregeeth Eknaligoda following information obtained from the suspects and not to cow down to political pressure.

The CID has arrested two suspects who had been in the military intelligence service and during the interrogations they had confessed that they abducted and handed over the journalist to an army camp in Girithale in the North Western Province, reports said. It is further reported that two high ranking military personnel were involved in the disappearance of the journalist.

Prageeth Eknaligoda disappeared on January 24, 2010 and there has been no investigation for the five years. The FMM believes the information will be of immense use for further investigations and it commends the CID for resuming investigations. The FMM further appeals for an independent investigation and to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
