CID breakthrough:
Bharatha Lakshman suspect linked to Bloemendhal shooting
by Ranil Wijayapala
Vidanagamage Amila Sampath, the sixth accused in the Bharatha
Lakshman Premachandra murder case, has been arrested by the Criminal
Investigation Department in connection with the Bloemendhal shooting
incident, Police said yesterday. This ‘most wanted’ suspect had
reportedly gone missing near the Hulftsdorp courts complex on August 6.
The Police have also located the second car in which the Bloemendhal
attackers came.
Police Spokesman, ASP, Ruwan Gunasekara said the arrest had been made
by a special CID team investigating the Bloemendhal shooting incident in
which two people, including a woman, were killed and eleven others were
injured while engaged in election campaigning for Colombo District UNP
candidate, Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
His arrest may be the breakthrough that the CID is seeking in their
probe on the Bloemendhal attack. Based on the information given by Amila
Sampath (28), a body building instructor by profession, and other
information gathered through investigations, the CID is conducting
further investigations to arrest the main suspects and the weapons used
in the Bloemendhal incident.
The car in which the gunmen had come has been identified as a black
coloured hybrid bearing the registration number KX- 3149. CID teams are
conducting further investigations into it. |
