Kandy Club to conduct Black Snooker tourney
by Hafiz Marikar
Kandy Club together with the Sri Lanka Billiards and Snooker
Association will be hosting a Six Ball Pot Black Snooker Tournament on
September 26 at the Kandy Club table.
This will be the first time in the history of Kandy Club (which dates
back to 1877) that an event of this magnitude will be conducted with the
blessings of the Sri Lanka Billiards and Snooker Association.
Kandy Club possesses probably one of the most historic Billiards and
Snooker Tables that is in good condition in Sri Lanka. Many myths and
legends surround this Billiards and Snooker table which dates back to
1913. The table is preserved in its original condition with even the
ivory dots that surround the table.
This table came to this club when the property was run as an
Englishman's club. They also have one of the oldest scoreboards which is
over 100 years. The entry fee for the Six Ball Pot Black Tournament is
Rs.500 and it will be an invitation event. The tournament is expected to
start at 9.30 am and will be completed the same day, concluding with the
awards ceremony. The teams expected to take part are Kandy Garden Club,
Kandy Sports Club, Public Services Club, Mahanuwara YMBA and Kandy Club.
It will be held under the distinguished patronage of the president of
the Sri Lanka Billiards and Snooker Association Zuraish Hassim. |
